Event Details

Explore the places and policies that feed all of New York City.
See distribution centers and vibrant local markets at work. We will go behind the scenes of various supply chain models within the city and see how they help connect producers with consumers. From one of the largest wholesale markets in the world to the regional farmstands at a Greenmarket to procurement policies at city schools, the city’s market processes will be examined in-depth and in-person. Tour guides will include Bob Lewis of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Executive Chef Jorge Collazo of the New York City’s Department of Education SchoolFood Program, and Thomas Forster of International Partners for Sustainable Agriculture.


The tour will include stops at:

-The Hunts Point Wholesale Farmers Market

-The Hunts Point Terminal Market

-The Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket

-Prospect High School in Brooklyn


We will provide:

-bus transport through 4 of New York’s boroughs

-a great lunch prepared by SchoolFood staff

-talks by local policymakers, advocates, and farmers

-a focus on the themes of CSD 17, major group concerns, and international sharing of best practices
